| 5 | 5 | | relating to the confidentiality of certain information concerning |

| 7 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Section 437.232(a), Government Code, is amended |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | (a) In this section, "military personnel information" means |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | a service member's name, Department of Defense identification |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | number, home address, rank, official title, pay rate or grade, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | state active duty orders, deployment locations, military duty |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | addresses, awards and decorations, length of military service, and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | medical records. |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | a request for information that is received by a governmental body or |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | an officer for public information on or after the effective date of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | this Act. A request for information that was received before the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect on the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | date the request was received, and the former law is continued in |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | effect for that purpose. |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
