| 7 | 7 | | relating to a study regarding the feasibility of integrating into |

| 8 | 8 | | the electric grid facilities that use nuclear energy to generate |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | electricity. |

| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. STUDY. The chancellor of The University of Texas |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | System shall designate a department or entity at the university to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | conduct a study regarding the feasibility of integrating into the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | electric grid additional facilities that use nuclear energy to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | generate electricity, including a comparison of the costs and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | benefits of nuclear fusion reactors and nuclear fission reactors. |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | SECTION 2. REPORT. The department or entity at The |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | University of Texas System designated by the chancellor of the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | university system to conduct the study under Section 1 of this Act |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | shall prepare a report with the conclusions of the study and submit |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the report to the legislature not later than September 1, 2024. |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | SECTION 3. EXPIRATION. This Act expires December 1, 2024. |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect September |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | 1, 2023. |
