| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 442, Government Code, is |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | amended by adding Section 442.034 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Sec. 442.034. ROSENWALD SCHOOLS STRUCTURES PROGRAM. (a) |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | The commission shall establish a program to: |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (1) identify, renovate, restore, maintain, and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | preserve Rosenwald Schools structures, and their contents, located |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | in this state; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (2) protect the historical and architectural |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | integrity of the exterior, interior, and grounds of the Rosenwald |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Schools structures. |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (b) The commission may, as part of the program, acquire |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | property containing a Rosenwald School structure. |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (c) A Rosenwald School structure restored, repaired, or |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | renovated under the program may be used as a community learning |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | center. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (d) The commission may accept gifts, grants, and in-kind |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | donations from public and private entities to implement the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | program. The legislature may appropriate money to the commission |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | to implement the program. |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | (e) The commission may adopt rules reasonably necessary to |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | implement the program. |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | SECTION 2. The Texas Historical Commission shall first |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | implement the program established by Section 442.034, Government |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Code, as added by this Act, in the south central region of this |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | state. |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
