66 AN ACT
77 relating to a marketing plan for the parenting and paternity
88 awareness program in public schools.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is
1111 amended by adding Section 28.0028 to read as follows:
1212 Sec. 28.0028. PARENTING AND PATERNITY AWARENESS PROGRAM
1313 MARKETING PLAN. The commissioner shall develop a marketing plan
1414 for the parenting and paternity awareness program developed by the
1515 State Board of Education under Section 28.002(p) to ensure public
1616 school students who are not enrolled in a health curriculum course
1717 offered by a school district or open-enrollment charter school are
1818 offered the program curriculum in other courses, including
1919 mathematics, economics, psychology, or certain related elective
2020 courses. The marketing plan must include a guide that demonstrates
2121 the manner in which the district or school may incorporate the
2222 program into different courses in grades 6 through 12.
2323 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2023-2024
2424 school year.
2525 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
2626 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
2727 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
2828 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
2929 Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
