9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 40, Human Resources Code, |

11 | 11 | | is amended by adding Section 40.0375 to read as follows: |

12 | 12 | | Sec. 40.0375. TRAINING IN CULTURAL COMPETENCE. (a) In this |
---|
13 | 13 | | section, "cultural competence" means the ability to understand, |
---|
14 | 14 | | communicate with, and effectively interact with people from |
---|
15 | 15 | | different cultures. |
---|
16 | 16 | | (b) The department shall provide training in cultural |
---|
17 | 17 | | competence to employees who work in the family-based safety |
---|
18 | 18 | | services area. The training must educate employees on the ways in |
---|
19 | 19 | | which a person's cultural differences affect the person's views on |
---|
20 | 20 | | family and raising children. |
---|
21 | 21 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
