77 relating to fire alarms in commercial buildings.
88 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
99 SECTION 1. Subtitle A, Title 9, Health and Safety Code, is
1010 amended by adding Chapter 767 to read as follows:
1111 CHAPTER 767. FIRE SAFETY IN COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS
1212 Sec. 767.001. DEFINITION. In this chapter, "fire alarm"
1313 means a device that detects and sounds an alarm, through audible or
1414 visual means, to indicate the presence of a fire or combustion.
1515 Sec. 767.002. FIRE ALARM REQUIREMENT. The owner of a
1616 commercial building in this state shall ensure that working fire
1717 alarms are installed and maintained in the building in accordance
1818 with the fire alarm requirements of the building code in effect in
1919 the political subdivision in which the commercial building is
2020 located, including performance, location, and power source
2121 requirements.
2222 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
