8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Subtitle A, Title 9, Health and Safety Code, is |

10 | 10 | | amended by adding Chapter 767 to read as follows: |

11 | 11 | | CHAPTER 767. FIRE SAFETY IN COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS |
---|
12 | 12 | | Sec. 767.001. DEFINITION. In this chapter, "fire alarm" |
---|
13 | 13 | | means a device that detects and sounds an alarm, through audible or |
---|
14 | 14 | | visual means, to indicate the presence of a fire or combustion. |
---|
15 | 15 | | Sec. 767.002. FIRE ALARM REQUIREMENT. The owner of a |
---|
16 | 16 | | commercial building in this state shall ensure that working fire |
---|
17 | 17 | | alarms are installed and maintained in the building in accordance |
---|
18 | 18 | | with the fire alarm requirements of the building code in effect in |
---|
19 | 19 | | the political subdivision in which the commercial building is |
---|
20 | 20 | | located, including performance, location, and power source |
---|
21 | 21 | | requirements. |

22 | 22 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
