| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Section 148.011(c), Agriculture Code, is amended |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (c) The record must be prepared and made available to the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Texas Animal Health Commission and for public inspection within 24 |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | hours after the slaughterer receives the livestock. The |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | slaughterer shall preserve the record for at least one year [two |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | years] and shall keep the record open for public inspection at all |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | reasonable hours. |

| 19 | 19 | | SECTION 2. Section 148.043(b), Agriculture Code, is amended |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (b) A slaughterer shall preserve the [keep] records under |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | this section for at least one year and shall keep the record open |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | for public inspection at reasonable hours. |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
