| 6 | 6 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 7 | 7 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 504, Transportation Code, |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | is amended by adding Section 504.6661 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Sec. 504.6661. K9S4KIDS LICENSE PLATES. (a) The |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | department shall issue K9s4KIDs specialty license plates. The |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | department shall design the license plates in consultation with |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | K9s4KIDs. |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (b) After deduction of the department's administrative |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | costs, the remainder of the fee for issuance of the license plates |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | shall be deposited to the credit of the general revenue fund to be |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | used only by the Texas Education Agency in making grants to |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | nonprofit organizations for the purpose of funding the purchase of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | police dogs by a public or private primary or secondary school or by |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | an institution of higher education or private or independent |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | institution of higher education. |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
