55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the amount of the exemption from ad valorem taxation by
88 a school district of the appraised value of the residence homestead
99 of a person who is elderly or disabled.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Section 11.13(c), Tax Code, is amended to read
1212 as follows:
1313 (c) In addition to the exemption provided by Subsection (b)
1414 [of this section], an adult who is disabled or is 65 or older is
1515 entitled to an exemption from taxation by a school district of
1616 $560,000 [$10,000] of the appraised value of the person's [his]
1717 residence homestead.
1818 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect January 1, 2024, but only
1919 if the constitutional amendment proposed by the 88th Legislature,
2020 Regular Session, 2023, authorizing the legislature to increase the
2121 amount of the exemption from ad valorem taxation by a school
2222 district of the market value of the residence homestead of a person
2323 who is elderly or disabled is approved by the voters. If that
2424 proposed constitutional amendment is not approved by the voters,
2525 this Act has no effect.
