10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Section 11.13(c), Tax Code, is amended to read |
---|
12 | 12 | | as follows: |
---|
13 | 13 | | (c) In addition to the exemption provided by Subsection (b) |
---|
14 | 14 | | [of this section], an adult who is disabled or is 65 or older is |
---|
15 | 15 | | entitled to an exemption from taxation by a school district of |
---|
16 | 16 | | $560,000 [$10,000] of the appraised value of the person's [his] |
---|
17 | 17 | | residence homestead. |
---|
18 | 18 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect January 1, 2024, but only |
---|
19 | 19 | | if the constitutional amendment proposed by the 88th Legislature, |
---|
20 | 20 | | Regular Session, 2023, authorizing the legislature to increase the |
---|
21 | 21 | | amount of the exemption from ad valorem taxation by a school |
---|
22 | 22 | | district of the market value of the residence homestead of a person |
---|
23 | 23 | | who is elderly or disabled is approved by the voters. If that |
---|
24 | 24 | | proposed constitutional amendment is not approved by the voters, |
---|
25 | 25 | | this Act has no effect. |
