| 7 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Section 504.416, Transportation Code, is amended |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Sec. 504.416. STAR OF TEXAS AWARD RECIPIENTS. (a) The |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | department shall issue specialty license plates for persons who are |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | recipients of a Star of Texas Award under Chapter 3106, Government |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Code. The license plates must include the Star of Texas Award |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | emblem and the words "Star of Texas." |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | (b) The surviving spouse of a person who was the posthumous |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | recipient of an award described by Subsection (a) is entitled to |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | specialty license plates issued under this section. |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | SECTION 2. Section 504.5115, Transportation Code, is |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | amended by adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | (d) The surviving spouse of a person who was the posthumous |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | recipient of an award described by Subsection (a) is entitled to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | specialty license plates issued under this section. |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
