7 | 7 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

8 | 8 | | SECTION 1. Sec. 54.366, Education Code, is amended by |
---|
9 | 9 | | adding (d) and (e) to read as follows: |

10 | 10 | | (d) The Texas Education Agency and the Texas Higher |
---|
11 | 11 | | Education Coordinating Board shall notify students in the |
---|
12 | 12 | | conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services |
---|
13 | 13 | | and in grades 9-12 of the availability of an exemption from the |
---|
14 | 14 | | payment of tuition and fees as provided by this section. |
---|
15 | 15 | | (e) The Texas Education Agency and the Texas Higher |
---|
16 | 16 | | Education Coordinating Board shall develop a digital system that |
---|
17 | 17 | | automatically enrolls eligible students in the state college |
---|
18 | 18 | | tuition waiver program. |
---|
19 | 19 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
---|
20 | 20 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
---|
21 | 21 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
---|
22 | 22 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
---|
23 | 23 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
