| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Section 28.025, Education Code, is amended by |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | adding Subsection (b-24) to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (b-24) The State Board of Education shall adopt rules |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | requiring students enrolled in high school to complete a course on |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the United States Constitution and the Texas Constitution as part |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | of a school district's social studies curriculum. |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | SECTION 2. Section 28.025(b-24), Education Code, as added |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | by this Act, applies beginning with students who enter the ninth |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | grade during the 2023-2024 school year. |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
