| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. (a) In this section, "department" means the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs. |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | (b) Using existing resources, the department shall conduct |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | a study on the number of incidents and causes of mold contamination |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | in housing developments that are wholly or partly supported by |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | financial assistance administered by the department. |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | (c) Not later than September 1, 2024, the department shall |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | prepare and submit to the legislature a written report that |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | summarizes the results of the study conducted under this section |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and recommends a course of action for preventing and remediating |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | incidents and causes of mold contamination in housing developments |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | that are wholly or partly supported by financial assistance |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | administered by the department. |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | SECTION 2. This Act expires September 1, 2025. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
