55 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
66 AN ACT
77 relating to the punishment for the offense of driving while license
88 invalid.
99 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1010 SECTION 1. Section 521.457(e), Transportation Code, is
1111 amended to read as follows:
1212 (e) Except as provided by Subsections [(f),] (f-1)[,] and
1313 (f-2), an offense under this section is a Class C misdemeanor.
1414 SECTION 2. Section 521.457(f), Transportation Code, is
1515 repealed.
1616 SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act applies only
1717 to an offense committed on or after the effective date of this Act.
1818 An offense committed before the effective date of this Act is
1919 governed by the law in effect on the date the offense was committed,
2020 and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose. For
2121 purposes of this section, an offense was committed before the
2222 effective date of this Act if any element of the offense occurred
2323 before that date.
2424 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
