| 7 | 7 | | relating to a report by the Windham School District on dyslexia and |

| 8 | 8 | | illiteracy among certain students enrolled in the district. |

| 9 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 10 | 10 | | SECTION 1. (a) Not later than September 1, 2024, the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Windham School District shall identify each student enrolled in the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | district who is younger than 22 years of age and has dyslexia or is |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | illiterate. |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (b) Not later than December 22, 2024, the Windham School |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | District shall prepare and submit to the governor, the lieutenant |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | governor, the speaker of the house of representatives, and the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | members of the legislature a written report that includes: |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | (1) a summary of the district's findings under |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Subsection (a) of this section, including statistical information |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | regarding the incidence of dyslexia and illiteracy among students |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | enrolled in the district who are younger than 22 years of age; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (2) legislative recommendations to address the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | incidence of dyslexia and illiteracy among students enrolled in the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | district who are younger than 22 years of age. |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | SECTION 2. This Act expires September 1, 2025. |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
