| 8 | 8 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 9 | 9 | | SECTION 1. Section 42.031(a), Election Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | (a) During March or April of each even-numbered |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | [odd-numbered] year, each commissioners court shall determine |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | whether the county election precincts comply with Sections 42.005, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | 42.006, and 42.007. [The commissioners court may make that |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | determination during March or April of an even-numbered year.] |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Before May 1 of the year in which the determination is made, the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | commissioners court shall order the boundary changes necessary for |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | compliance. |

| 19 | 19 | | SECTION 2. Section 42.033(a), Election Code, is amended to |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | read as follows: |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | (a) A change in a county election precinct boundary takes |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | effect on the first day of the first odd-numbered [even-numbered |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | voting] year following the [voting] year in which the change is |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | ordered. |

| 25 | 25 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
