55 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, The observance of Legislators in Schools Day creates
77 an annual opportunity for lawmakers in the State of Texas to visit
88 and teach in a classroom in their respective districts; and
99 WHEREAS, When elected officials devote their time to visiting
1010 local schools, students learn to appreciate the workings of our
1111 representative democracy, and they gain a better understanding of
1212 the legislative processes and the importance of effective public
1313 policy; moreover, by engaging in meaningful conversations with
1414 young constituents, legislators can get a fresh perspective on the
1515 day-to-day realities of public schools in the Lone Star State; and
1616 WHEREAS, Programs that promote a stronger and more
1717 collaborative relationship between policy makers and their local
1818 school districts greatly benefit our communities and the state as a
1919 whole; now, therefore, be it
2020 RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas
2121 hereby designate the second Tuesday in October as Legislators in
2222 Schools Day; and, be it further
2323 RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section
2424 391.004(d), Government Code, this designation remain in effect
2525 until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally
2626 passed by the legislature.
