56 WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
67 a close with the passing of Fire Chief Curtis Dewayne Brown of the
78 Dalhart Fire Department on October 4, 2022, at the age of 51; and
89 WHEREAS, The son of Richard Brown and Linda Miller, Curtis
910 Brown was born in Dalhart on July 12, 1971; he grew up in Haven,
1011 Kansas, with the companionship of two siblings, Paul and Billy, and
1112 he graduated from Haven High School in 1989; and
1213 WHEREAS, After returning to Texas, Mr. Brown joined the
1314 Dalhart Fire Department, and he was promoted to captain in his first
1415 year; he was later named fire chief, and over the course of his
1516 nearly three decades with the agency, he earned certification as a
1617 master firefighter and emergency care attendant; he also served as
1718 the City of Dalhart Fire Marshal for 17 years, and he was an
1819 instructor at the world's largest live fire training facility, TEEX
1920 Brayton Fire Training Field, for 10 years; he further distinguished
2021 himself as a member of Hartley Fire and EMS; among his many honors,
2122 he was named the 2016 Firefighter of the Year by the Panhandle
2223 Firefighters' and Fire Marshals' Association and the State
2324 Firefighters' and Fire Marshals' Association of Texas; and
2425 WHEREAS, Dedicated to his profession, Mr. Brown held
2526 leadership positions with both the Panhandle and State
2627 Firefighters' and Fire Marshals' Associations; he further
2728 contributed to his community through his service with the Rotary
2829 Club, the Coffee Memorial Blood Center board, and the Brother's
2930 Keepers Motorcycle Club Chapter 42; he also coached in local
3031 softball and baseball leagues, taught area youth fire safety
3132 skills, and assisted with search and rescue efforts; and
3233 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Brown enjoyed the love and
3334 support of his wife, DeNisa, and he took great pride in his five
3435 children, Hannah, Dustin, Amber, Janice, and Jordan, and his eight
3536 grandchildren; in his leisure hours, he liked to listen to music and
3637 ride four-wheelers, all-terrain vehicles, and motorcycles; and
3738 WHEREAS, Admired for his leadership, generosity, and
3839 delightful sense of humor, Curtis Brown devoted himself to
3940 protecting his fellow citizens and improving his community, and he
4041 leaves behind a record of service that his loved ones can remember
4142 with pride; now, therefore, be it
4243 RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas
4344 hereby pay tribute to the memory of Fire Chief Curtis Dewayne Brown
4445 and extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn his passing; and, be
4546 it further
4647 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4748 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4849 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
4950 Curtis Brown.
