49 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
510 WHEREAS, The citizens of Granbury observe a wide array of
611 special events and celebrations, both time-honored and new, that
712 add greatly to the city's distinctive character and strong sense of
813 community; and
914 WHEREAS, The full calendar of festivities in Granbury
1015 includes events that commemorate holidays, that honor the area's
1116 rich history, that showcase art, culture, and music, and that offer
1217 a variety of food and entertainment for attendees of all ages;
1318 Granbury also appeals to many Texans as the perfect location for
1419 smaller and more personal celebrations, including birthdays,
1520 weddings, weekend getaways, and family reunions; and
1621 WHEREAS, Every year, residents and visitors turn out in large
1722 numbers for such annual favorites as the Granbury Wine Walk, where
1823 they can sample a selection of local vintages, and the Granbury
1924 Founders Day Jubilee, which features a street dance and a bean and
2025 barbecue cook-off; the city also boasts unique celebrations to
2126 commemorate St. Patrick's Day, Independence Day, and Oktoberfest,
2227 and during the Christmas season, an exhibition of more than 1,300
2328 nativity scenes is staged at the Away in a Manger display at Langdon
2429 Center Concert Hall; several events, including the long-running
2530 Harvest Moon Festival of the Arts, are presented by the Historic
2631 Granbury Merchants Association, an organization dedicated to
2732 promoting business and tourism in the city; and
2833 WHEREAS, Renowned for its welcoming charm, historic
2934 landmarks, and abundance of activities and amenities, Granbury was
3035 named the Best Historic Small Town in America by USA Today for three
3136 consecutive years beginning in 2019; the city's sesquicentennial
3237 celebration was honored with a 2022 TAMI Award by the Texas
3338 Association of Municipal Information Officers, while its Lake
3439 Granbury Goosebump Jump won a 2022 Texas Travel Award; in addition,
3540 the city was recognized as one of the best small towns in Texas by
3641 the Texas Travel Industry Association in 2019; and
3742 WHEREAS, Brimming with events throughout the year, the city
3843 of Granbury has distinguished itself as a popular destination for
3944 festivals, fairs, and special gatherings of all varieties, and
4045 these get-togethers serve as a great opportunity to showcase this
4146 vibrant community while bringing joy to attendees young and old;
4247 now, therefore, be it
4348 RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas
4449 hereby designate Granbury as the official Celebration Capital of
4550 Texas; and, be it further
4651 RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section
4752 391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in effect
4853 until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally
4954 passed by the legislature.
