4	9		HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
5	10		WHEREAS, The citizens of Granbury observe a wide array of
6	11		special events and celebrations, both time-honored and new, that
7	12		add greatly to the city's distinctive character and strong sense of
8	13		community; and
9	14		WHEREAS, The full calendar of festivities in Granbury
10	15		includes events that commemorate holidays, that honor the area's
11	16		rich history, that showcase art, culture, and music, and that offer
12	17		a variety of food and entertainment for attendees of all ages;
13	18		Granbury also appeals to many Texans as the perfect location for
14	19		smaller and more personal celebrations, including birthdays,
15	20		weddings, weekend getaways, and family reunions; and
16	21		WHEREAS, Every year, residents and visitors turn out in large
17	22		numbers for such annual favorites as the Granbury Wine Walk, where
18	23		they can sample a selection of local vintages, and the Granbury
19	24		Founders Day Jubilee, which features a street dance and a bean and
20	25		barbecue cook-off; the city also boasts unique celebrations to
21	26		commemorate St. Patrick's Day, Independence Day, and Oktoberfest,
22	27		and during the Christmas season, an exhibition of more than 1,300
23	28		nativity scenes is staged at the Away in a Manger display at Langdon
24	29		Center Concert Hall; several events, including the long-running
25	30		Harvest Moon Festival of the Arts, are presented by the Historic
26	31		Granbury Merchants Association, an organization dedicated to
27	32		promoting business and tourism in the city; and
28	33		WHEREAS, Renowned for its welcoming charm, historic
29	34		landmarks, and abundance of activities and amenities, Granbury was
30	35		named the Best Historic Small Town in America by USA Today for three
31	36		consecutive years beginning in 2019; the city's sesquicentennial
32	37		celebration was honored with a 2022 TAMI Award by the Texas
33	38		Association of Municipal Information Officers, while its Lake
34	39		Granbury Goosebump Jump won a 2022 Texas Travel Award; in addition,
35	40		the city was recognized as one of the best small towns in Texas by
36	41		the Texas Travel Industry Association in 2019; and
37	42		WHEREAS, Brimming with events throughout the year, the city
38	43		of Granbury has distinguished itself as a popular destination for
39	44		festivals, fairs, and special gatherings of all varieties, and
40	45		these get-togethers serve as a great opportunity to showcase this
41	46		vibrant community while bringing joy to attendees young and old;
42	47		now, therefore, be it
43	48		RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas
44	49		hereby designate Granbury as the official Celebration Capital of
45	50		Texas; and, be it further
46	51		RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section
47	52		391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in effect
48	53		until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally
49	54		passed by the legislature.
