| 5 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The wounds sustained through armed service to the |
|---|
| 6 | 11 | | United States are both visible and invisible, and it is vital that |
|---|
| 7 | 12 | | all veterans and their families have access to appropriate health |
|---|
| 8 | 13 | | care treatments and other resources; and |
|---|
| 9 | 14 | | WHEREAS, According to the Department of Veterans Affairs and |
|---|
| 10 | 15 | | the Department of Defense, an average of nearly 20 current or former |
|---|
| 11 | 16 | | members of the armed forces die by suicide each day, and veterans |
|---|
| 12 | 17 | | account for a disproportionate percentage of all adult suicides in |
|---|
| 13 | 18 | | the U.S.; and |
|---|
| 14 | 19 | | WHEREAS, It is of critical importance that military and |
|---|
| 15 | 20 | | veteran communities continue to offer support to the surviving |
|---|
| 16 | 21 | | family members of veterans who die by suicide and connect them to |
|---|
| 17 | 22 | | available resources; these families have valuable lessons to share |
|---|
| 18 | 23 | | that can help prevent future suicides in veteran populations, and |
|---|
| 19 | 24 | | their voices should be included in prevention efforts; and |
|---|
| 20 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The families of veterans who die by suicide are |
|---|
| 21 | 26 | | deserving of recognition for their contributions to the strength, |
|---|
| 22 | 27 | | health, and survival of veteran communities, and Texas Veterans |
|---|
| 23 | 28 | | Suicide Prevention Day offers a fitting opportunity for all Texans |
|---|
| 24 | 29 | | to extend their support to veterans and their families; now, |
|---|
| 25 | 30 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas |

| 27 | 32 | | hereby designate September 22 as Texas Veterans Suicide Prevention |
|---|
| 28 | 33 | | Day; and, be it further |

| 29 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of |
