11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Ed Runyan is an alumnus of the University of Tulsa, |
---|
12 | 13 | | where he earned both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in |
---|
13 | 14 | | petroleum engineering; he began his career as a reservoir engineer |
---|
14 | 15 | | at Sohio Petroleum Co., before serving in the United States Army and |
---|
15 | 16 | | then moving to Midland to become a district engineer for Sohio in |
---|
16 | 17 | | 1960; he continued acquiring experience in the industry while |
---|
17 | 18 | | working for Permian Enterprises and Elcor Chemical Corporation, |
---|
18 | 19 | | where he was named vice president of the corporation and president |
---|
19 | 20 | | of its Agriculture Chemicals Division in 1963; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, In 1969, Mr. Runyan founded Weeks Petroleum Ltd., |
---|
21 | 22 | | which later became Bell Petroleum Services; he subsequently |
---|
22 | 23 | | established Texon Oil Company, and in 1990, he acquired a |
---|
23 | 24 | | controlling interest in Mid-America Petroleum, which he made |
---|
24 | 25 | | private and renamed Seaboard Oil Company; over the past quarter of a |
---|
25 | 26 | | century, Texon and Seaboard have been credited with the discovery |
---|
26 | 27 | | of several significant oil fields; and |
---|
27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Runyan has earned the respect and admiration of |
---|
28 | 29 | | his professional peers through his service in roles such as |
---|
29 | 30 | | president of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, chair of the SPE |
---|
30 | 31 | | Foundation, and president of the American Institute of Mining, |
---|
31 | 32 | | Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers; he and his wife, Marilee |
---|
32 | 33 | | Runyan, are also longtime supporters of the University of Tulsa, |

33 | 34 | | which honored him as a Distinguished Alumnus in 1978; and |

34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Ed Runyan has built a reputation as a dynamic leader |

35 | 36 | | and innovator in the petroleum industry, and he may indeed take |

36 | 37 | | pride in this prestigious recognition of his lifetime achievements; |
