56 WHEREAS, Edward Runyan is being inducted into the Petroleum
67 Hall of Fame on April 30, 2023; and
78 WHEREAS, Based at the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum in
89 Midland, the Petroleum Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have
910 made outstanding contributions to the development of the petroleum
1011 industry in the region; and
1112 WHEREAS, Ed Runyan is an alumnus of the University of Tulsa,
1213 where he earned both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in
1314 petroleum engineering; he began his career as a reservoir engineer
1415 at Sohio Petroleum Co., before serving in the United States Army and
1516 then moving to Midland to become a district engineer for Sohio in
1617 1960; he continued acquiring experience in the industry while
1718 working for Permian Enterprises and Elcor Chemical Corporation,
1819 where he was named vice president of the corporation and president
1920 of its Agriculture Chemicals Division in 1963; and
2021 WHEREAS, In 1969, Mr. Runyan founded Weeks Petroleum Ltd.,
2122 which later became Bell Petroleum Services; he subsequently
2223 established Texon Oil Company, and in 1990, he acquired a
2324 controlling interest in Mid-America Petroleum, which he made
2425 private and renamed Seaboard Oil Company; over the past quarter of a
2526 century, Texon and Seaboard have been credited with the discovery
2627 of several significant oil fields; and
2728 WHEREAS, Mr. Runyan has earned the respect and admiration of
2829 his professional peers through his service in roles such as
2930 president of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, chair of the SPE
3031 Foundation, and president of the American Institute of Mining,
3132 Metallurgical, and Petroleum Engineers; he and his wife, Marilee
3233 Runyan, are also longtime supporters of the University of Tulsa,
3334 which honored him as a Distinguished Alumnus in 1978; and
3435 WHEREAS, Ed Runyan has built a reputation as a dynamic leader
3536 and innovator in the petroleum industry, and he may indeed take
3637 pride in this prestigious recognition of his lifetime achievements;
3738 now, therefore, be it
3839 RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas
3940 hereby congratulate Edward Runyan on his induction into the
4041 Petroleum Hall of Fame and extend to him sincere best wishes for the
4142 future; and, be it further
4243 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4344 prepared for Mr. Runyan as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4445 House of Representatives and Senate.
