10 | 11 | | petroleum industry and set inspiring examples of exemplary service, |

12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Sparks joined the Shell Oil Company after |

13 | 14 | | graduating from The University of Texas at Austin with a degree in |
---|
14 | 15 | | petroleum engineering; following his service in the U.S. Navy, he |
---|
15 | 16 | | returned to Shell as an exploitation engineer in charge of the |
---|
16 | 17 | | drilling and completion procedures for development wells in West |
---|
17 | 18 | | Texas; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, After working for Freeport Oil Co. and Bailey, |

19 | 20 | | Sipes, Williamson and Runyan, Mr. Sparks formed Discovery |
---|
20 | 21 | | Operating in 1973; over the years, the company has grown to |

21 | 22 | | encompass 31 employees and 420 wells that produce 10,700 barrels of |

22 | 23 | | crude and condensate and 13 million cubic feet of natural gas per |

24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Don Sparks has distinguished himself as a successful |

25 | 26 | | and influential figure in an industry that is a vital part of the |

26 | 27 | | Texas economy, and it is truly fitting that he should receive this |

27 | 28 | | prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it |
