56 WHEREAS, The Eastland Oil Company of Midland is celebrating
67 the 100th anniversary of its founding in 2023; and
78 WHEREAS, A privately held exploration and production
89 company, the business traces its roots to the A. M. Donnelly
910 Drilling Company, established by Arthur Matthew Donnelly; he began
1011 his career about 1891, working for the Standard Oil Company and
1112 operating a gas distribution system in upstate New York; following
1213 the turn of the century, he set out for Oklahoma with his family;
1314 and
1415 WHEREAS, The company drilled wells in Kansas and Oklahoma
1516 before establishing its first Texas wells in Denton County in 1914;
1617 that year, it also contracted with Mid-West Oil to drill in the
1718 Artesia Field in New Mexico; four years later, it began operations
1819 in Eastland County, where it discovered the Martin Field;
1920 A. M. Donnelly then incorporated the firm as the Eastland Oil
2021 Company; and
2122 WHEREAS, Eastland moved its headquarters to Fort Worth in
2223 1924; after World War II, George Donnelly Jr., a geologist, opened
2324 an office in Monahans; he mapped much of the Permian Basin and
2425 initiated the company's efforts in the development of numerous
2526 fields across the region; in 1977, Eastland Oil relocated to
2627 Midland; and
2728 WHEREAS, Today, Eastland Oil operates more than 60 wells in
2829 West Texas and eastern New Mexico; through the years, the company's
2930 leadership has demonstrated its commitment to the industry through
3031 important roles in such institutions as the Bureau of Economic
3132 Geology, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists
3233 Foundation, and the Petroleum Museum; current president Robert R.
3334 "Robin" Donnelly represents the fourth generation to guide the
3435 firm, and his son, Garrett Donnelly, has served as vice president
3536 since 2018; and
3637 WHEREAS, The Eastland Oil Company has made significant
3738 contributions to the Permian Basin over the course of its long
3839 history, and it stands as an inspiring example of the success that
3940 can be realized by hardworking, visionary entrepreneurs in the Lone
4041 Star State; now, therefore, be it
4142 RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas
4243 hereby congratulate the Eastland Oil Company on its centennial and
4344 extend to all those associated with the firm sincere best wishes for
4445 continued success; and, be it further
4546 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4647 prepared for the company as an expression of high regard by the
4748 Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
