No. 23 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION WHEREAS, Lori Blong was elected mayor of the City of Midland in November 2022; and WHEREAS, The first woman to become the city's mayor, Lori Blong brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her new role; she has represented District 4 on the Midland City Council for three years, and she has served as mayor pro tempore as well as council liaison for the Midland Development Corporation; she is also a member of Congressman August Pfluger's Energy Task Force and the Permian Basin Petroleum Association board, and she is a founding member of the Midland Quality of Place Conservancy; in addition, she is a former president of Midland Habitat for Humanity, which she continues to serve as a member of the board of directors; and WHEREAS, Early in her career, Mayor Blong taught social studies at Coronado High School in El Paso; she went on to cofound Octane Energy with her husband, Jared, in 2013, and today, she is responsible for negotiations, administrative oversight, and financial management; she holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Hardin-Simmons University as well as postgraduate teacher certifications in history and social studies; and WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Mayor Blong benefits from the love and support of her husband, Jared, and she takes great pride in their three children; she is a devoted congregant of Stonegate Fellowship church, where she also teaches Bible studies; and WHEREAS, A committed champion of her community, Lori Blong can reflect with great pride on her contributions to its strength and prosperity as she takes on this challenging new role; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby congratulate the Honorable Lori Blong on her election as mayor of the City of Midland and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mayor Blong as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
