11 | 26 | | role throughout our country's history; this influence is documented |

12 | 27 | | in government records, including colonial charters, early laws, |

13 | 28 | | original state constitutions, and hundreds of state and federal |

14 | 29 | | court cases; and |

15 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Through the centuries, a host of major American |

16 | 31 | | historical figures have relied on Christian traditions, tenets, and |
---|
17 | 32 | | values to guide their actions and have stressed the importance of |
---|
18 | 33 | | those principles when addressing their fellow citizens; such |
---|
19 | 34 | | individuals as George Washington, Abigail and John Adams, James |
---|
20 | 35 | | Madison, Abraham Lincoln, Harry S. Truman, and Dwight D. Eisenhower |

21 | 36 | | drew strength from their Christian beliefs, and these prominent men |

22 | 37 | | and women, like countless other Americans, did not hesitate to |

23 | 38 | | express their faith; and |
---|
24 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Public officials across the country, at all levels, |

25 | 40 | | have acknowledged this meaningful influence through the observance |

26 | 41 | | of Christian Heritage Week; the occasion serves to highlight the |

27 | 42 | | immeasurable impact of Christianity on our nation, from the |
---|
28 | 43 | | fellowship and good works offered by local churches to the respite |
---|
29 | 44 | | from life's ordinary travails afforded by religious holidays and |
---|
30 | 45 | | rituals; the continued vitality of this faith tradition is |
---|
31 | 46 | | evidenced by the ongoing proliferation of Christian houses of |

32 | 47 | | worship, charities, ministries, missions, and schools; and |
---|
33 | 48 | | WHEREAS, The celebration of Christian Heritage Week provides |
---|
34 | 49 | | opportunities for adherents of the religion to more deeply examine |

35 | 50 | | its vital role in society and for people of all faiths to learn more |

36 | 51 | | about the rich fabric of our nation's history; now, therefore, be it |

37 | 52 | | RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas |

38 | 53 | | hereby designate the second to last week in April as Texas Christian |
