49 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
510 WHEREAS, The city of Mineral Wells has long been associated
611 with activities focused on health and well-being, and in recent
712 years, it has become an increasingly popular destination for
813 travelers seeking wellness experiences; and
914 WHEREAS, Mineral Wells first gained renown as a health resort
1015 during the late 1800s and early 1900s, when tourists were drawn by
1116 its mineral waters, which were believed to have special medicinal
1217 properties; by the 1920s, the town was home to more than 400 mineral
1318 wells and numerous therapeutic bathhouses, and bottled water and
1419 water crystals from the area were shipped throughout the nation;
1520 today, visitors can still enjoy mineral baths and spa treatments
1621 inspired by those that gave rise to the city's historic motto: "the
1722 South's Greatest Health Resort"; and
1823 WHEREAS, While Mineral Wells draws inspiration from its rich
1924 past, it also caters to the needs of health-conscious travelers in
2025 the 21st century; the local wellness industry has enjoyed a
2126 resurgence in recent years as the city has worked toward securing
2227 designation as a Wellness Tourism Destination; in order to receive
2328 this coveted title, a community is required to meet a number of
2429 criteria outlined by the Wellness Tourism Association with an
2530 emphasis on health, safety, cleanliness, sustainability, and
2631 natural beauty; and
2732 WHEREAS, Located in the hilly terrain of the Palo Pinto
2833 Mountains, the Mineral Wells area offers numerous locations to
2934 enjoy the outdoors, including the Brazos River, Possum Kingdom
3035 Lake, and the Clark Gardens Botanical Park; in addition, the city
3136 boasts a variety of recreational opportunities at Lake Mineral
3237 Wells State Park, the Texas Frontier Trails, and Mineral Wells
3338 Fossil Park, where visitors can enjoy such activities as hiking,
3439 cycling, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, paddleboarding, and
3540 horseback riding; and
3641 WHEREAS, A range of businesses have been established in
3742 Mineral Wells that are popular with wellness travelers, among them,
3843 yoga studios and markets featuring goods from local artisans and
3944 fresh produce from area farmers and growers; such enterprises
4045 reflect the growing importance of tourism to the city's economy;
4146 and
4247 WHEREAS, Through its burgeoning wellness industry and its
4348 abundance of natural attractions, Mineral Wells is building on its
4449 heritage as one of the Lone Star State's premier destinations for
4550 wellness getaways and elevating its reputation as a haven for both
4651 recreation and relaxation; now, therefore, be it
4752 RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas
4853 hereby designate Mineral Wells as the official Wellness Capital of
4954 Texas; and, be it further
5055 RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section
5156 391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in effect
5257 until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally
5358 passed by the legislature.
