5 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The city of Mineral Wells has long been associated |

8 | 13 | | travelers seeking wellness experiences; and |

9 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mineral Wells first gained renown as a health resort |

10 | 15 | | during the late 1800s and early 1900s, when tourists were drawn by |
---|
11 | 16 | | its mineral waters, which were believed to have special medicinal |
---|
12 | 17 | | properties; by the 1920s, the town was home to more than 400 mineral |
---|
13 | 18 | | wells and numerous therapeutic bathhouses, and bottled water and |
---|
14 | 19 | | water crystals from the area were shipped throughout the nation; |
---|
15 | 20 | | today, visitors can still enjoy mineral baths and spa treatments |
---|
16 | 21 | | inspired by those that gave rise to the city's historic motto: "the |
---|
17 | 22 | | South's Greatest Health Resort"; and |
---|
18 | 23 | | WHEREAS, While Mineral Wells draws inspiration from its rich |

19 | 24 | | past, it also caters to the needs of health-conscious travelers in |

20 | 25 | | the 21st century; the local wellness industry has enjoyed a |
---|
21 | 26 | | resurgence in recent years as the city has worked toward securing |
---|
22 | 27 | | designation as a Wellness Tourism Destination; in order to receive |
---|
23 | 28 | | this coveted title, a community is required to meet a number of |
---|
24 | 29 | | criteria outlined by the Wellness Tourism Association with an |
---|
25 | 30 | | emphasis on health, safety, cleanliness, sustainability, and |
---|
26 | 31 | | natural beauty; and |
---|
27 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Located in the hilly terrain of the Palo Pinto |
---|
28 | 33 | | Mountains, the Mineral Wells area offers numerous locations to |
---|
29 | 34 | | enjoy the outdoors, including the Brazos River, Possum Kingdom |
---|
30 | 35 | | Lake, and the Clark Gardens Botanical Park; in addition, the city |
---|
31 | 36 | | boasts a variety of recreational opportunities at Lake Mineral |
---|
32 | 37 | | Wells State Park, the Texas Frontier Trails, and Mineral Wells |

33 | 38 | | Fossil Park, where visitors can enjoy such activities as hiking, |

40 | 45 | | reflect the growing importance of tourism to the city's economy; |

42 | 47 | | WHEREAS, Through its burgeoning wellness industry and its |
---|
43 | 48 | | abundance of natural attractions, Mineral Wells is building on its |
---|
44 | 49 | | heritage as one of the Lone Star State's premier destinations for |
---|
45 | 50 | | wellness getaways and elevating its reputation as a haven for both |
---|
46 | 51 | | recreation and relaxation; now, therefore, be it |
---|
47 | 52 | | RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas |
---|
48 | 53 | | hereby designate Mineral Wells as the official Wellness Capital of |
---|
49 | 54 | | Texas; and, be it further |
---|
50 | 55 | | RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section |
---|
51 | 56 | | 391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in effect |
---|
52 | 57 | | until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally |
---|
53 | 58 | | passed by the legislature. |
