| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Looking for a way to advocate for the needs and |

| 11 | 12 | | concerns of county residents, Mr. Shaw went to the Brazosport Area |

| 12 | 13 | | Chamber of Commerce with the idea for Brazoria County Day; he |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | subsequently spearheaded efforts to create the event and gave the |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | day its distinctive flair, deciding to serve fresh shrimp to |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | distinguish it from other county days and nicknaming it "the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | World's Largest Shrimp Cocktail"; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The first Brazoria County Day, held in 1973, only |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | drew a handful of the county's residents, but over the past half |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | century, it has evolved into one of the most popular events of the |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | legislative season, attracting hundreds of participants; since its |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | founding, the day has been celebrated each year that the |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | legislature has been in session, with the exception of 2021 due to |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | the COVID-19 pandemic; this year's observance will be the first |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | since Mr. Shaw passed away in January 2020, and the event's |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | trademark shrimp is being served out of a boat christened the |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | SS Wayne Shaw in his honor; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Through his efforts to create Brazoria County Day, |

| 28 | 29 | | Wayne Shaw set an inspiring example of community leadership and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | civic engagement, and it is a pleasure to join in recognizing his |

| 30 | 31 | | significant contributions to Brazoria County; now, therefore, be it |

| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas |
