55 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
66 WHEREAS, State law stipulates in Section 2165.256,
77 Government Code, that a person specified in a concurrent resolution
88 adopted by the legislature is eligible for burial in the State
99 Cemetery if the State Cemetery Committee finds that the person has
1010 made a significant contribution to Texas history and, based on that
1111 finding, approves the person's burial; and
1212 WHEREAS, Patrick John Nugent, a former executive director of
1313 the Texas Pipeline Association, is a pioneering figure who played a
1414 vital role in improving state infrastructure and whose professional
1515 achievements helped ensure the safety and well-being of countless
1616 Texans, and his request for burial in the State Cemetery merits
1717 approval by the committee; and
1818 WHEREAS, Born on July 9, 1943, Patrick Nugent graduated from
1919 Campion Jesuit High School in 1961 and Marquette University in
2020 1965; he went on to join the Texas Air National Guard, and he served
2121 with the 315th Special Operations Wing in South Vietnam; his honors
2222 include the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with two
2323 oak leaf clusters; and
2424 WHEREAS, Following his service with the Texas military,
2525 Mr. Nugent became executive vice president of the LBJ Company, and
2626 he was active on the boards of Texas Commerce Bank and Bank of the
2727 Hills, as well as the Travis County Child Welfare board; he later
2828 embarked on a rewarding career as an assistant director of the
2929 Railroad Commission of Texas; and
3030 WHEREAS, Mr. Nugent was elected executive director of TPA in
3131 1983, and over the course of his tenure, he oversaw numerous
3232 advocacy efforts related to pipeline safety, environmental
3333 regulations, taxation, and legislation; he further distinguished
3434 himself through his 35 years of service as an ex officio member of
3535 the Texas Natural Gas Reliability Council, which provides natural
3636 gas supplies to regions affected by extreme heat or cold; and
3737 WHEREAS, In his retirement, Mr. Nugent continues to benefit
3838 his community as an active member and trustee of Veterans of Foreign
3939 Wars Post No. 856; and
4040 WHEREAS, In light of his noteworthy contributions to the Lone
4141 Star State, it is fitting that Patrick John Nugent be allowed to
4242 designate the State Cemetery as his final resting place; now,
4343 therefore, be it
4444 RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas
4545 hereby authorize the burial of Patrick John Nugent in the State
4646 Cemetery, provided that his application for assignment of burial
4747 space is approved by the State Cemetery Committee as required by
4848 law.
