| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, State law stipulates in Section 2165.256, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Government Code, that a person specified in a concurrent resolution |

| 8 | 8 | | adopted by the legislature is eligible for burial in the State |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Cemetery if the State Cemetery Committee finds that the person has |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | made a significant contribution to Texas history and, based on that |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | finding, approves the person's burial; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Patrick John Nugent, a former executive director of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the Texas Pipeline Association, is a pioneering figure who played a |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | vital role in improving state infrastructure and whose professional |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | achievements helped ensure the safety and well-being of countless |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Texans, and his request for burial in the State Cemetery merits |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | approval by the committee; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Born on July 9, 1943, Patrick Nugent graduated from |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Campion Jesuit High School in 1961 and Marquette University in |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | 1965; he went on to join the Texas Air National Guard, and he served |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | with the 315th Special Operations Wing in South Vietnam; his honors |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | include the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with two |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | oak leaf clusters; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Following his service with the Texas military, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Mr. Nugent became executive vice president of the LBJ Company, and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | he was active on the boards of Texas Commerce Bank and Bank of the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Hills, as well as the Travis County Child Welfare board; he later |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | embarked on a rewarding career as an assistant director of the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Railroad Commission of Texas; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Nugent was elected executive director of TPA in |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | 1983, and over the course of his tenure, he oversaw numerous |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | advocacy efforts related to pipeline safety, environmental |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | regulations, taxation, and legislation; he further distinguished |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | himself through his 35 years of service as an ex officio member of |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | the Texas Natural Gas Reliability Council, which provides natural |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | gas supplies to regions affected by extreme heat or cold; and |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | WHEREAS, In his retirement, Mr. Nugent continues to benefit |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | his community as an active member and trustee of Veterans of Foreign |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Wars Post No. 856; and |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | WHEREAS, In light of his noteworthy contributions to the Lone |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | Star State, it is fitting that Patrick John Nugent be allowed to |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | designate the State Cemetery as his final resting place; now, |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | hereby authorize the burial of Patrick John Nugent in the State |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | Cemetery, provided that his application for assignment of burial |
|---|
| 47 | 47 | | space is approved by the State Cemetery Committee as required by |
|---|
| 48 | 48 | | law. |
