6	5		CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
7	6		WHEREAS, The National Life Monument celebrates the miracle of
8	7		life and the women at the center of that miracle; and
9	8		WHEREAS, Sculpted by artist Timothy Schmalz, the bronze
10	9		sculpture depicts a mother with an unborn child cradled in a
11	10		world-shaped womb; and
12	11		WHEREAS, The eight-foot bronze statue was permanently
13	12		installed at the Church of San Marcello al Corso in Rome in May
14	13		2022, and after a tour of the U.S., the original Life Monument was
15	14		installed at the Theological College in Washington, D.C.; and
16	15		WHEREAS, Under Chapter 443, Government Code, and rules of the
17	16		State Preservation Board, a portion of the north Capitol grounds is
18	17		available for new monuments, subject to legislative approval,
19	18		specified procedural requirements, the provision of funding from
20	19		private donors, conformity to certain size and design limitations
21	20		and parameters, and completion on a timely basis; and
22	21		WHEREAS, A replica of the monument on the Capitol grounds
23	22		would provide a communal place for Texans to celebrate the beauty of
24	23		human life; now, therefore, be it
25	24		RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas
26	25		hereby authorize the State Preservation Board, subject to state law
27	26		and rules of the board, to approve the construction of a replica of
28	27		the National Life Monument at the State Capitol Complex, at a site
29	28		outside of the historic Capitol grounds; and, be it further
30	29		RESOLVED, That the Texas secretary of state forward an
31	30		official copy of this resolution to the executive director of the
32	31		State Preservation Board.
