65 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
76 WHEREAS, The National Life Monument celebrates the miracle of
87 life and the women at the center of that miracle; and
98 WHEREAS, Sculpted by artist Timothy Schmalz, the bronze
109 sculpture depicts a mother with an unborn child cradled in a
1110 world-shaped womb; and
1211 WHEREAS, The eight-foot bronze statue was permanently
1312 installed at the Church of San Marcello al Corso in Rome in May
1413 2022, and after a tour of the U.S., the original Life Monument was
1514 installed at the Theological College in Washington, D.C.; and
1615 WHEREAS, Under Chapter 443, Government Code, and rules of the
1716 State Preservation Board, a portion of the north Capitol grounds is
1817 available for new monuments, subject to legislative approval,
1918 specified procedural requirements, the provision of funding from
2019 private donors, conformity to certain size and design limitations
2120 and parameters, and completion on a timely basis; and
2221 WHEREAS, A replica of the monument on the Capitol grounds
2322 would provide a communal place for Texans to celebrate the beauty of
2423 human life; now, therefore, be it
2524 RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas
2625 hereby authorize the State Preservation Board, subject to state law
2726 and rules of the board, to approve the construction of a replica of
2827 the National Life Monument at the State Capitol Complex, at a site
2928 outside of the historic Capitol grounds; and, be it further
3029 RESOLVED, That the Texas secretary of state forward an
3130 official copy of this resolution to the executive director of the
3231 State Preservation Board.
