 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 WHEREAS, The Texas Historical Foundation has presented its
 2023 Star of Texas Award to the Cavender family, the founders of the
 iconic Western wear company Cavender's; and
 WHEREAS, Each year, the Texas Historical Foundation confers
 this accolade to recognize individuals or businesses that have made
 an important contribution to preserving and promoting Texas
 culture; and
 WHEREAS, Cavender's was founded in Pittsburg in 1965 by James
 and Pat Cavender, who decided to try selling clothing after
 dabbling in several other ventures; when the three styles of Tony
 Lama boots they stocked sold well, Mr. Cavender ordered more; in
 the 1970s, he bought and resold an entire cattle trailer load of
 boots from a manufacturer that was going out of business; and
 WHEREAS, During the Urban Cowboy craze of the 1980s,
 Cavender's flourished, and after that era died down, the store
 still continued to thrive; the company formed a strategic alliance
 with a promising country singer, George Strait, who would go on to
 superstardom; and
 WHEREAS, Cavender's has been named the nation's top retailer
 for many prominent manufacturers, among them Lucchese, Justin, Tony
 Lama, and Wrangler; along the way, it has strived to maintain its
 reputation for friendly customer service, as well as connections to
 its roots; stores display Cavender family photos, including old
 black-and-white pictures of grandparents on their ranches in
 Albany, Texas, and Idabel, Oklahoma; in 2019, the Cavender family
 was inducted into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame; and
 WHEREAS, Today, Cavender's has more than 90 stores across the
 South and Southwest; operations are run by the sons of James and
 Pat, brothers Joe, Mike, and Clay Cavender; and
 WHEREAS, While providing customers with traditional Western
 wear, the Cavender family has worked to preserve an important
 legacy, and the longevity of its business is a tribute to
 generations of careful stewardship; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas
 hereby congratulate the Cavender family on its receipt of the 2023
 Star of Texas Award from the Texas Historical Foundation and extend
 to all those associated with Cavender's sincere best wishes for
 continued success in the years to come; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the Cavender family as an expression of high regard by
 the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
