9 | 9 | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | |
10 | 10 | SECTION 1. Section 65(a), Article XVI, Texas Constitution, | |
11 | 11 | is amended to read as follows: | |
12 | 12 | (a) This section applies to the following offices serving | |
13 | 13 | counties with a population of 100,000 or more according to the most | |
14 | 14 | recent federal decennial census: District Clerks; County Clerks; | |
15 | 15 | County Judges; Judges of the County Courts at Law, County Criminal | |
16 | 16 | Courts, County Probate Courts and County Domestic Relations Courts; | |
17 | 17 | County Treasurers; Criminal District Attorneys; County Surveyors; | |
18 | 18 | County Commissioners; Justices of the Peace; Sheriffs; Assessors | |
19 | 19 | and Collectors of Taxes; District Attorneys; County Attorneys; | |
20 | 20 | Public Weighers; and Constables. | |
21 | 21 | SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be | |
22 | 22 | submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 7, 2023. | |
23 | 23 | The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the | |
24 | 24 | proposition: "The constitutional amendment to allow an officer of a | |
25 | 25 | county with a population of less than 100,000 to become a candidate | |
26 | 26 | for another office without automatically resigning from the | |
27 | 27 | currently held office." |
