| 7 | 7 | | visiting the Texas Capitol on April 21, 2023; and |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Coach Maria Samantha |

| 9 | 9 | | Montano, eighth-grade students at Lamar Middle have completed more |

| 10 | 10 | | than 200 hours of community service as part of the Advancement Via |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Individual Determination program, a global nonprofit organization |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | that focuses on promoting college readiness and developing study |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | skills, critical thinking, and literacy; Lamar Middle participants |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | meet every other day for 90 minutes, which includes a tutoring |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | session to help identify problem-solving strategies; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In addition to their visit to the State Capitol, |

| 17 | 17 | | these outstanding young Texans are touring The University of Texas |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | at Austin campus; the students have previously toured Texas Woman's |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | University, and they have participated in an AVID Leadership |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Conference at American Airlines Center; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Lamar Middle School has demonstrated a strong |

| 22 | 22 | | commitment to supporting academic excellence and college |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | readiness, and participants in its AVID program may take great |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | pride in their achievements as they look forward to a future bright |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | with promise; now, therefore, be it |

| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby recognize the Lamar Middle School AVID program |
