55 WHEREAS, Students and faculty from the Lamar Middle School
66 AVID program in the Lewisville Independent School District are
77 visiting the Texas Capitol on April 21, 2023; and
88 WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Coach Maria Samantha
99 Montano, eighth-grade students at Lamar Middle have completed more
1010 than 200 hours of community service as part of the Advancement Via
1111 Individual Determination program, a global nonprofit organization
1212 that focuses on promoting college readiness and developing study
1313 skills, critical thinking, and literacy; Lamar Middle participants
1414 meet every other day for 90 minutes, which includes a tutoring
1515 session to help identify problem-solving strategies; and
1616 WHEREAS, In addition to their visit to the State Capitol,
1717 these outstanding young Texans are touring The University of Texas
1818 at Austin campus; the students have previously toured Texas Woman's
1919 University, and they have participated in an AVID Leadership
2020 Conference at American Airlines Center; and
2121 WHEREAS, Lamar Middle School has demonstrated a strong
2222 commitment to supporting academic excellence and college
2323 readiness, and participants in its AVID program may take great
2424 pride in their achievements as they look forward to a future bright
2525 with promise; now, therefore, be it
2626 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
2727 Legislature hereby recognize the Lamar Middle School AVID program
2828 and extend a warm welcome to the visiting delegation; and, be it
2929 further
3030 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3131 prepared for the Lamar Middle School AVID program as an expression
3232 of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
