No. 1010 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Nicole Bernal has been honored with the EXCEL Award for the Randolph Field Independent School District from the KENS 5 television station; and WHEREAS, Each year, KENS 5 presents its EXCEL Awards to recognize outstanding educators from local school districts; Ms. Bernal was selected for her work in establishing and leading a program at Randolph High School that prepares students for careers in the medical field; and WHEREAS, A certified emergency medical technician and a former staff member at University Hospital, Ms. Bernal currently serves as the career and technical education health science teacher at Randolph High; her program includes seven classes with topics ranging from basic science to practicum, and her final course provides students with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience by working in a classroom environment that is set up to simulate a clinic; participants also complete a rigorous interview process; through the program, students learn how to conduct patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and draw blood, and many graduate from high school with medical assistant, phlebotomy, and electrocardiogram certifications; in addition, the program offers externships with local clinics and doctors' offices; and WHEREAS, Over the course of her career, Nicole Bernal has made a positive difference in the lives of countless young Texans, and her dedication, expertise, and innovative spirit have earned her the lasting respect and admiration of her students and colleagues alike; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Nicole Bernal on receiving the KENS 5 EXCEL Award for the Randolph Field Independent School District and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in her important work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Bernal as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
