| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Nicole Bernal has been honored with the EXCEL Award |

| 6 | 6 | | for the Randolph Field Independent School District from the KENS 5 |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | television station; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Each year, KENS 5 presents its EXCEL Awards to |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | recognize outstanding educators from local school districts; |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Ms. Bernal was selected for her work in establishing and leading a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | program at Randolph High School that prepares students for careers |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | in the medical field; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A certified emergency medical technician and a |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | former staff member at University Hospital, Ms. Bernal currently |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | serves as the career and technical education health science teacher |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | at Randolph High; her program includes seven classes with topics |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | ranging from basic science to practicum, and her final course |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | provides students with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | by working in a classroom environment that is set up to simulate a |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | clinic; participants also complete a rigorous interview process; |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | through the program, students learn how to conduct patient |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | assessments, monitor vital signs, and draw blood, and many graduate |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | from high school with medical assistant, phlebotomy, and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | electrocardiogram certifications; in addition, the program offers |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | externships with local clinics and doctors' offices; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of her career, Nicole Bernal has |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | made a positive difference in the lives of countless young Texans, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | and her dedication, expertise, and innovative spirit have earned |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | her the lasting respect and admiration of her students and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | colleagues alike; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Nicole Bernal on receiving the KENS |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | 5 EXCEL Award for the Randolph Field Independent School District |
