5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents of Three Rivers are gathering in |

6 | 6 | | Austin on April 12, 2023, to celebrate Three Rivers Day at the State |
---|
7 | 7 | | Capitol; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Located in Live Oak County, Three Rivers can trace |
---|
9 | 9 | | its origins to 1913, when the San Antonio, Uvalde, and Gulf Railroad |
---|
10 | 10 | | built a depot on the land belonging to Annie T. Hamilton; shortly |
---|
11 | 11 | | thereafter, Charles R. Tips organized a townsite company and began |
---|
12 | 12 | | selling acreage; originally called Hamiltonburg, the town was |
---|
13 | 13 | | renamed in 1914 to Three Rivers due to its close proximity to the |
---|
14 | 14 | | confluence of the Atascosa, Frio, and Nueces Rivers; the town was |
---|
15 | 15 | | officially incorporated in 1926; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Three Rivers experienced a period of industrial |
---|
17 | 17 | | growth beginning in the early to mid-20th century with the |
---|
18 | 18 | | discovery of natural gas and large deposits of Quartzone sand |
---|
19 | 19 | | nearby; the first glass factory in the state was built there in |
---|
20 | 20 | | 1922, but it would eventually close down in 1937; in 1933, the Three |
---|
21 | 21 | | Rivers Refinery was established, and by 1990, it had developed into |
---|
22 | 22 | | a major Diamond Shamrock oil refinery, where many area residents |
---|
23 | 23 | | found employment; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Today, Three Rivers is home to approximately 2,000 |
---|
25 | 25 | | citizens; residents and visitors alike are able to enjoy a number of |
---|
26 | 26 | | local attractions, including the historic Rialto Theatre, the |
---|
27 | 27 | | annual Live Oak County Fair, and the Choke Canyon Reservoir and |
---|
28 | 28 | | State Park, which is noted for its diverse array of wildlife; |
---|
29 | 29 | | outdoor enthusiasts are drawn to the area for activities such as |
---|
30 | 30 | | hunting, fishing, camping, and canoeing; in addition to tourism, |
---|
31 | 31 | | the town's economy is predominantly supported by farming, ranching, |
---|
32 | 32 | | and oil and gas production; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Celebrating their rich history as they work to build |
---|
34 | 34 | | an even brighter future, the citizens of Three Rivers are |
---|
35 | 35 | | justifiably proud of their community, and it is indeed fitting to |
---|
36 | 36 | | honor their contributions to the story of the Lone Star State; now, |
---|
37 | 37 | | therefore, be it |

38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
39 | 39 | | Legislature hereby recognize April 12, 2023, as Three Rivers Day at |
---|
40 | 40 | | the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting |
---|
41 | 41 | | delegation. |
