| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The City of Cockrell Hill is holding a |

| 6 | 6 | | ribbon-cutting ceremony for Stevie Ray Vaughan Park on April 22, |

| 7 | 7 | | 2023; and |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The park is named for Texas guitar legend Stevie Ray |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Vaughan, who was born in Dallas in 1954 and grew up in the Oak |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Cliff-Cockrell Hill area; he began playing in bands when he was a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | student in junior high school, and he moved to Austin at age 17 to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | pursue his musical career; his rise to international stardom |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | commenced in the early 1980s, and he went on to become one of the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | most influential rock and blues guitarists of all time; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In 2015, the City of Cockrell Hill acquired the land |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | of the old Hill Theater, where Mr. Vaughan had made his public debut |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | in 1965; community leaders set about creating a public space to pay |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | tribute to the musician and to provide a location for local artists |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | to showcase their talents; the park features a stage, lawn seating, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | and a walkway set beneath large shade trees; paintings of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Mr. Vaughan by local muralist Steve Hunter pay homage to the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | beloved six-string virtuoso; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Stevie Ray Vaughan Park will serve as a popular |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | entertainment and recreation destination for area residents for |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | many years to come, and it is indeed a pleasure to celebrate the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | opening of this outstanding community resource; now, therefore, be |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | it |

| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the ribbon-cutting ceremony for |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Stevie Ray Vaughan Park in Cockrell Hill and commend all those who |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | helped bring this project to fruition; and, be it further |

| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
