5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Chief Justice Sherry Radack retired from the First |

6 | 6 | | Court of Appeals in Texas on December 31, 2022, concluding a |

7 | 7 | | distinguished tenure that spanned more than two decades; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed jurist joined the First District Court |
---|
9 | 9 | | of Appeals in 2001 as a justice; she was appointed chief justice of |
---|
10 | 10 | | the court the following year, and she was elected chief justice by |
---|
11 | 11 | | popular vote in 2004; before taking the bench, she was employed as a |
---|
12 | 12 | | civil trial lawyer with Bracewell & Patterson in Houston, and she |
---|
13 | 13 | | served as a civil district judge in Harris County from 1998 to 2001; |
---|
14 | 14 | | and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Active in her professional community, Chief Justice |
---|
16 | 16 | | Radack has served as president of the Council of Chief Judges of the |
---|
17 | 17 | | State Courts of Appeal and on the boards of the Texas Judicial |
---|
18 | 18 | | Council, the Texas Indigent Defense Commission, and the State Bar |
---|
19 | 19 | | of Texas Appellate Section, among other groups; moreover, she has |
---|
20 | 20 | | contributed her time and talents to the University of St. Thomas, |
---|
21 | 21 | | the American Diabetes Association, and the Westland YMCA; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, An alumna of Rice University, Chief Justice Radack |
---|
23 | 23 | | taught middle-school Spanish and French in the Houston area before |
---|
24 | 24 | | enrolling at the University of Houston Law Center; she also owned |
---|
25 | 25 | | and operated retail stores in Texas and Oklahoma during the 1970s; |
---|

27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Sherry Radack's dedication, integrity, and |
---|
28 | 28 | | commitment to the law have greatly benefited the work of the First |
---|
29 | 29 | | Court of Appeals in Texas and earned her the respect and admiration |

30 | 30 | | of her peers, and she may indeed reflect with pride on her service |
---|
31 | 31 | | as she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; now, |

33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Sherry Radack on her retirement as |

35 | 35 | | chief justice of the First Court of Appeals in Texas and extend to |

36 | 36 | | her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
