44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Chief Justice Sherry Radack retired from the First
66 Court of Appeals in Texas on December 31, 2022, concluding a
77 distinguished tenure that spanned more than two decades; and
88 WHEREAS, This esteemed jurist joined the First District Court
99 of Appeals in 2001 as a justice; she was appointed chief justice of
1010 the court the following year, and she was elected chief justice by
1111 popular vote in 2004; before taking the bench, she was employed as a
1212 civil trial lawyer with Bracewell & Patterson in Houston, and she
1313 served as a civil district judge in Harris County from 1998 to 2001;
1414 and
1515 WHEREAS, Active in her professional community, Chief Justice
1616 Radack has served as president of the Council of Chief Judges of the
1717 State Courts of Appeal and on the boards of the Texas Judicial
1818 Council, the Texas Indigent Defense Commission, and the State Bar
1919 of Texas Appellate Section, among other groups; moreover, she has
2020 contributed her time and talents to the University of St. Thomas,
2121 the American Diabetes Association, and the Westland YMCA; and
2222 WHEREAS, An alumna of Rice University, Chief Justice Radack
2323 taught middle-school Spanish and French in the Houston area before
2424 enrolling at the University of Houston Law Center; she also owned
2525 and operated retail stores in Texas and Oklahoma during the 1970s;
2626 and
2727 WHEREAS, Sherry Radack's dedication, integrity, and
2828 commitment to the law have greatly benefited the work of the First
2929 Court of Appeals in Texas and earned her the respect and admiration
3030 of her peers, and she may indeed reflect with pride on her service
3131 as she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; now,
3232 therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3434 Legislature hereby congratulate Sherry Radack on her retirement as
3535 chief justice of the First Court of Appeals in Texas and extend to
3636 her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3838 prepared for Chief Justice Radack as an expression of high regard by
3939 the Texas House of Representatives.
