| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Life School, a nonprofit network of tuition-free, |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | public charter schools in the Dallas area, is marking the 25th |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | anniversary of its founding in 2023; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, With the goal of providing students with a quality |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | education and giving parents educational choice regardless of their |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | ability to pay, pastor Tom Wilson applied for a charter for the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | school with the State of Texas in the spring of 1998; on August 12 |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | of that year, Life School opened its first campus in Oak Cliff with |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 15 staff members and 266 students; in the decades since, the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | district has grown significantly, and today Life School operates 10 |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | schools in Carrollton, Cedar Hill, Lancaster, Mountain Creek, Oak |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Cliff, Red Oak, and Waxahachie, serving more than 5,600 |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | kindergarten through 12th-grade students and employing over 600 |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | faculty and staff members; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of superintendent |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Dr. Brent Wilson, Life School offers a wide range of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | extracurricular activities and athletics, as well as Career and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Technical Education programs and dual credit partnerships with |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | local community colleges; in 2022, the district earned seven campus |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | distinctions, including a distinction for Postsecondary Readiness |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | at its flagship campus in Oak Cliff; moreover, Life School has |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | implemented a number of innovative initiatives, such as moving |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | toward a four-day school week beginning in August 2023; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, For nearly three decades, Life School has sought to |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | develop future leaders through strong academics, character |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | training, and partnerships with parents and the community, and it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | has made a meaningful difference in the lives of countless young |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Texans; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 25th anniversary of Life School |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | and extend to its administrators, faculty, staff, and students |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |

| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

|---|
