44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The boys' and girls' soccer teams from Lamar High
66 School in Houston achieved great distinction by winning their
77 respective district championships for 2023; and
88 WHEREAS, Both squads clinched their titles on March 10 at
99 Butler Stadium in Houston, delivering outstanding performances
1010 against District 18-6A rival Bellaire High School; after trailing
1111 1-0 early in the boys' match, the Texans evened the score by
1212 halftime and seized a 2-1 lead in the 59th minute with a corner
1313 kick; Lamar ultimately emerged triumphant by the final score of
1414 3-1, claiming its third consecutive league crown; and
1515 WHEREAS, Needing only a tie against Bellaire to secure a
1616 first-place district finish, the Lamar girls capitalized on a
1717 direct kick in the 67th minute to produce a 1-0 victory; with the
1818 win, the team claimed its first league championship since 2013; and
1919 WHEREAS, Throughout the course of the regular season, both
2020 Lamar teams received valuable contributions from each member of
2121 their rosters; these determined student-athletes benefit from the
2222 able leadership of boys' head coach Jeremy Davison and girls' head
2323 coach Guy Nell; and
2424 WHEREAS, The Lamar High School soccer teams have demonstrated
2525 exemplary dedication and an unwavering commitment to excellence,
2626 and they are a source of tremendous pride for their fellow students
2727 and their many supporters in the community; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
2929 Legislature hereby congratulate the Lamar High School boys' and
3030 girls' soccer teams on winning district championships in 2023 and
3131 extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for
3232 continued success; and, be it further
3333 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3434 prepared for the teams as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3535 House of Representatives.
