66 WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Chapter of the Recording
77 Academy are gathering in Austin on April 18, 2023, in celebration of
88 the unique musical heritage of our state; and
99 WHEREAS, The birthplace of such distinctive styles as Texas
1010 country and Tejano, the Lone Star State has produced culturally
1111 significant artists in every musical genre; at the Recording
1212 Academy's 65th annual Grammy Awards and 23rd annual Latin Grammy
1313 Awards, Texas nominees and winners across multiple categories
1414 included Beyoncé, Miranda Lambert, Lizzo, Cody Johnson, Willie
1515 Nelson, Maren Morris, Spoon, Black Pumas, Snarky Puppy, Tobe
1616 Nwigwe, Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel, Kirk Franklin, Gene
1717 Moore, Bobby Pulido, Grupo Alamo, Marcos Witt, and Isabel Sanchez,
1818 along with many who work behind the scenes, among them producers,
1919 engineers, and songwriters; and
2020 WHEREAS, A number of Texas artists have been honored in
2121 recent years with the prestigious Recording Academy Lifetime
2222 Achievement Award, including Corpus Christi native Selena
2323 Quintanilla-Perez and Dallas/Fort Worth native DJ Spinderella as a
2424 member of Salt-N-Pepa; in addition, Texas can claim back-to-back
2525 recipients of the academy's Music Educator of the Year Award, 2023
2626 honoree Pamela Dawson, director of choral music at DeSoto High
2727 School, and 2022 winner Stephen Cox, director of bands for Advanced
2828 Learning Academy and Fox Tech and CAST Tech High Schools in San
2929 Antonio; and
3030 WHEREAS, Established in 1998, the Texas Chapter of the
3131 Recording Academy is dedicated to advancing music education, which
3232 enriches the lives of countless students, and promoting an industry
3333 that generates tens of billions of dollars in activity for the
3434 state; tied to an estimated 210,000-plus jobs, the economic sector
3535 is also supported by the efforts of the Texas Music Office, created
3636 by the Texas Legislature for that purpose; and
3737 WHEREAS, The music industry enhances the prosperity of the
3838 Lone Star State and contributes significantly to the vibrancy of
3939 American culture; now, therefore, be it
4040 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4141 Legislature hereby recognize April 18, 2023, as Texas Music
4242 Advocacy Day at the State Capitol and extend sincere best wishes for
4343 continued success to the members of the Texas Chapter of the
4444 Recording Academy.
