5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Chief Don Crowson of the Arlington Fire Department |
---|
6 | 6 | | is retiring on May 31, 2023, drawing to a close an outstanding |
---|
7 | 7 | | career with the agency that has spanned four decades; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Don Crowson joined the Arlington Fire Department in |
---|
9 | 9 | | 1983; he climbed the ranks in the decades that followed and was |
---|
10 | 10 | | appointed fire chief and director of emergency management in 2010; |
---|
11 | 11 | | during his time in that role, he has skillfully guided department |
---|
12 | 12 | | operations and played an instrumental role in overseeing the city's |
---|
13 | 13 | | response to natural disasters and other emergencies; moreover, he |
---|
14 | 14 | | has directed public safety operations for a number of major events, |
---|
15 | 15 | | including two World Series games and a Super Bowl; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In the course of his duties, Chief Crowson directs |
---|
17 | 17 | | the city's emergency management team and the 911 Dispatch Center, |
---|
18 | 18 | | and his wide-ranging responsibilities also include managing the |
---|
19 | 19 | | Arlington Emergency Medical Services System and chairing the |
---|
20 | 20 | | Tarrant County 911 District Board of Managers; in addition, he has |
---|
21 | 21 | | formed partnerships with other organizations to expand the fire |
---|
22 | 22 | | department's services and meet the needs of the community; in 2005, |
---|
23 | 23 | | he helped establish the agency's Bomb Squad, which has become the |
---|
24 | 24 | | largest explosive ordnance disposal unit in North Texas; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Under Chief Crowson's able leadership, the |
---|
26 | 26 | | Arlington Office of Emergency Management earned accreditation by |
---|
27 | 27 | | the Emergency Management Accreditation Program, becoming just the |
---|
28 | 28 | | sixth agency in the nation to receive that designation, and the |
---|
29 | 29 | | Arlington Fire Department earned the top Public Protection |
---|
30 | 30 | | Classification rating from the Insurance Services Office in 2017; |
---|
31 | 31 | | that same year, Chief Crowson became the first fire chief in the |
---|
32 | 32 | | nation to receive the American Medical Association's Dr. Nathan |
---|
33 | 33 | | Davis Award for Outstanding Government Service in the category of |
---|
34 | 34 | | career public servant at the local level; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Don Crowson's dedication, hard work, and commitment |
---|
36 | 36 | | to excellence have greatly benefited the citizens of Arlington and |
---|
37 | 37 | | earned him the respect and admiration of his fellow first |
---|
38 | 38 | | responders, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career well |
---|
39 | 39 | | spent as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; now, |
---|
40 | 40 | | therefore, be it |
---|
41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
42 | 42 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Chief Don Crowson on his retirement |
---|
43 | 43 | | from the Arlington Fire Department and extend to him sincere best |
---|
44 | 44 | | wishes for the future; and, be it further |
---|
45 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
