44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived remain to comfort the
66 family and friends of Miguel V. Rodriguez of Eagle Pass, who passed
77 away on February 2, 2023, at the age of 82; and
88 WHEREAS, Born on October 12, 1940, to Evaristo and Anita
99 Rodriguez, Miguel Rodriguez grew up with the companionship of four
1010 siblings, Carlos, Amparo, Evaristo, and Anna; he began working to
1111 support his family at a young age, and he was later employed as a
1212 seasonal migrant forklift driver for Del Monte Foods in California;
1313 and
1414 WHEREAS, Mr. Rodriguez enjoyed an impressive career as a
1515 trainer and manager of local boxers; some of his notable trainees
1616 included El Chamaco Cuenca, El Veneno, Chibuya, El Martillo, and
1717 Lalo Capetillo; known by the nickname "El Tigre," he served as a
1818 promoter of professional boxing in Piedras Negras, Coahuila,
1919 Mexico, throughout the 1970s and 1980s and earned a reputation as a
2020 savvy businessman as he elevated the popularity of the sport in the
2121 region; and
2222 WHEREAS, The boxers that Mr. Rodriguez trained and managed
2323 went on to appear in international boxing competitions and multiple
2424 bouts in Las Vegas, and he notably discovered Mike "El Cyclon" Ayala
2525 and represented him at the first world title fight in San Antonio in
2626 1979; he was also a supporter of Golden Gloves amateur boxing, and
2727 he took pride in seeing his son, the late Miguel A. Rodriguez, win
2828 the Golden Gloves state championship by knockout at age 17; and
2929 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Rodriguez enjoyed the love
3030 and support of his wife, Enriqueta Rodriguez, with whom he shared
3131 five decades; in addition to his son Miguel, he was devoted to his
3232 three other children, Claudia, Jesus, and Nilda, and he was further
3333 blessed with six grandchildren, Samantha, Illeana, Miguel, Jacob,
3434 Jacqueline, and Carolinita; and
3535 WHEREAS, Although he will be greatly missed, Miguel Rodriguez
3636 leaves behind a legacy that will long be treasured by all those who
3737 were fortunate enough to know him; now, therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3939 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Miguel V. Rodriguez
4040 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
4141 children, Dr. Claudia R. Wright and her husband, Jacob, Dr. Jesus
4242 Roberto Rodriguez and his wife, Carolina, and Nilda I. Rueda and her
4343 husband, Rogelio; to his grandchildren, Samantha, Illeana, and
4444 Miguel Rodriguez, Jacob and Jacqueline Wright, and Carolinita
4545 Rodriguez; to Alejandra and Rogelio Rueda; and to his other
4646 relatives and friends; and, be it further
4747 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4848 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4949 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Miguel
5050 Rodriguez.
