5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived remain to comfort the |

6 | 6 | | family and friends of Miguel V. Rodriguez of Eagle Pass, who passed |

7 | 7 | | away on February 2, 2023, at the age of 82; and |

8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born on October 12, 1940, to Evaristo and Anita |
---|
9 | 9 | | Rodriguez, Miguel Rodriguez grew up with the companionship of four |
---|
10 | 10 | | siblings, Carlos, Amparo, Evaristo, and Anna; he began working to |
---|
11 | 11 | | support his family at a young age, and he was later employed as a |
---|
12 | 12 | | seasonal migrant forklift driver for Del Monte Foods in California; |
---|
13 | 13 | | and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Rodriguez enjoyed an impressive career as a |
---|
15 | 15 | | trainer and manager of local boxers; some of his notable trainees |
---|
16 | 16 | | included El Chamaco Cuenca, El Veneno, Chibuya, El Martillo, and |
---|
17 | 17 | | Lalo Capetillo; known by the nickname "El Tigre," he served as a |
---|
18 | 18 | | promoter of professional boxing in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, |
---|
19 | 19 | | Mexico, throughout the 1970s and 1980s and earned a reputation as a |
---|
20 | 20 | | savvy businessman as he elevated the popularity of the sport in the |
---|
21 | 21 | | region; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The boxers that Mr. Rodriguez trained and managed |
---|
23 | 23 | | went on to appear in international boxing competitions and multiple |
---|
24 | 24 | | bouts in Las Vegas, and he notably discovered Mike "El Cyclon" Ayala |
---|
25 | 25 | | and represented him at the first world title fight in San Antonio in |
---|
26 | 26 | | 1979; he was also a supporter of Golden Gloves amateur boxing, and |
---|
27 | 27 | | he took pride in seeing his son, the late Miguel A. Rodriguez, win |
---|
28 | 28 | | the Golden Gloves state championship by knockout at age 17; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Rodriguez enjoyed the love |
---|
30 | 30 | | and support of his wife, Enriqueta Rodriguez, with whom he shared |
---|
31 | 31 | | five decades; in addition to his son Miguel, he was devoted to his |
---|
32 | 32 | | three other children, Claudia, Jesus, and Nilda, and he was further |
---|
33 | 33 | | blessed with six grandchildren, Samantha, Illeana, Miguel, Jacob, |
---|
34 | 34 | | Jacqueline, and Carolinita; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Although he will be greatly missed, Miguel Rodriguez |
---|
36 | 36 | | leaves behind a legacy that will long be treasured by all those who |
---|
37 | 37 | | were fortunate enough to know him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
39 | 39 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Miguel V. Rodriguez |

40 | 40 | | and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his |

41 | 41 | | children, Dr. Claudia R. Wright and her husband, Jacob, Dr. Jesus |

42 | 42 | | Roberto Rodriguez and his wife, Carolina, and Nilda I. Rueda and her |

43 | 43 | | husband, Rogelio; to his grandchildren, Samantha, Illeana, and |
