44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The girls' varsity basketball team from Saint Mary's
66 Hall in San Antonio enjoyed an outstanding 2022-2023 season,
77 claiming the district championship and advancing to the Texas
88 Association of Private and Parochial Schools state tournament for
99 the first time in the program's history; and
1010 WHEREAS, During the regular season, the Barons finished 25-8
1111 and went 12-2 against their league rivals; on February 9, the squad
1212 defeated Victoria St. Joseph High School 74-39 to claim the
1313 school's inaugural District 4-5A basketball crown; and
1414 WHEREAS, After a bye in the first round, Saint Mary's Hall
1515 opened the state playoffs by defeating Fort Bend Christian Academy,
1616 and the Barons went on to triumph over San Antonio Christian School
1717 to punch their ticket to the state tournament in Waco; in the 5A
1818 semifinal, they matched up against a talented team from Houston
1919 Second Baptist School; the Saint Mary's Hall players put forth an
2020 exceptional effort but saw their memorable season come to an end,
2121 posting a final record of 27 wins and 9 losses; and
2222 WHEREAS, Throughout the year, the Barons received valuable
2323 contributions from each member of the roster: freshmen Kathryn
2424 Tubb, Eleanor Pulis, Bianca Rodriguez, Isabella "Beya" Chase, and
2525 Maddie Florence, sophomores Emily Ton, Saviandra Trevino, and
2626 Natalia Chapa, juniors Anna Vaquiax, Blue Gomez, Abby Winter, Pinky
2727 Gomez, and Jay Vasan, and seniors Luz Chapa and Julia Garcia; these
2828 determined student-athletes were ably guided by head coach Matt
2929 Hayes and assistant coach Makayla Mabry, and the players received
3030 vital support from Luz Chapa and Natalia Chapa in their roles as
3131 team managers; and
3232 WHEREAS, The Barons' success is a source of great pride to the
3333 entire Saint Mary's Hall community, including students Francesca
3434 Fischer, Form 8, and Camilla Fischer, Form 6, the daughters of State
3535 Representative Trey Martinez Fischer, and they join with their
3636 classmates in offering special congratulations to the varsity
3737 squad; and
3838 WHEREAS, Excelling through determination and hard work, the
3939 Saint Mary's Hall Barons have established a new level of
4040 achievement for the school's basketball program, and they are
4141 indeed deserving of recognition for a job well done; now,
4242 therefore, be it
4343 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4444 Legislature hereby congratulate the Saint Mary's Hall girls'
4545 varsity basketball team on a successful 2022-2023 season and extend
4646 to the athletes, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for the
4747 future; and, be it further
4848 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4949 prepared for the Barons as an expression of high regard by the Texas
5050 House of Representatives.
