5	5	WHEREAS, The girls' varsity basketball team from Saint Mary's
6	6	Hall in San Antonio enjoyed an outstanding 2022-2023 season,
7	7	claiming the district championship and advancing to the Texas
8	8	Association of Private and Parochial Schools state tournament for
9	9	the first time in the program's history; and
10	10	WHEREAS, During the regular season, the Barons finished 25-8
11	11	and went 12-2 against their league rivals; on February 9, the squad
12	12	defeated Victoria St. Joseph High School 74-39 to claim the
13	13	school's inaugural District 4-5A basketball crown; and
14	14	WHEREAS, After a bye in the first round, Saint Mary's Hall
15	15	opened the state playoffs by defeating Fort Bend Christian Academy,
16	16	and the Barons went on to triumph over San Antonio Christian School
17	17	to punch their ticket to the state tournament in Waco; in the 5A
18	18	semifinal, they matched up against a talented team from Houston
19	19	Second Baptist School; the Saint Mary's Hall players put forth an
20	20	exceptional effort but saw their memorable season come to an end,
21	21	posting a final record of 27 wins and 9 losses; and
22	22	WHEREAS, Throughout the year, the Barons received valuable
23	23	contributions from each member of the roster: freshmen Kathryn
24	24	Tubb, Eleanor Pulis, Bianca Rodriguez, Isabella "Beya" Chase, and
25	25	Maddie Florence, sophomores Emily Ton, Saviandra Trevino, and
26	26	Natalia Chapa, juniors Anna Vaquiax, Blue Gomez, Abby Winter, Pinky
27	27	Gomez, and Jay Vasan, and seniors Luz Chapa and Julia Garcia; these
28	28	determined student-athletes were ably guided by head coach Matt
29	29	Hayes and assistant coach Makayla Mabry, and the players received
30	30	vital support from Luz Chapa and Natalia Chapa in their roles as
31	31	team managers; and
32	32	WHEREAS, The Barons' success is a source of great pride to the
33	33	entire Saint Mary's Hall community, including students Francesca
34	34	Fischer, Form 8, and Camilla Fischer, Form 6, the daughters of State
35	35	Representative Trey Martinez Fischer, and they join with their
36	36	classmates in offering special congratulations to the varsity
37	37	squad; and
38	38	WHEREAS, Excelling through determination and hard work, the
39	39	Saint Mary's Hall Barons have established a new level of
40	40	achievement for the school's basketball program, and they are
41	41	indeed deserving of recognition for a job well done; now,
42	42	therefore, be it
43	43	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
44	44	Legislature hereby congratulate the Saint Mary's Hall girls'
45	45	varsity basketball team on a successful 2022-2023 season and extend
46	46	to the athletes, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for the
47	47	future; and, be it further
48	48	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
49	49	prepared for the Barons as an expression of high regard by the Texas
50	50	House of Representatives.
