55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, Karen Burns has served Van Zandt County for 30
77 years, and her knowledge and dedication have earned her the respect
88 of many people along the way; and
99 WHEREAS, Mrs. Burns first joined the county in March 1992 as
1010 a part-time employee with the Van Zandt County Community
1111 Supervision and Corrections Department, and she became a full-time
1212 employee the following year; she eventually began serving as a
1313 probation officer, and in July 2011, she was promoted to deputy
1414 director of the Van Zandt County CSCD; and
1515 WHEREAS, Since her appointment as director in March 2017,
1616 Mrs. Burns has worked tirelessly with other agencies, departments,
1717 and community organizations to further the CSCD's mission of
1818 reducing the impact of crime in the community; under her able
1919 leadership, the department offers a range of probation services,
2020 including Pre and Post Sentence Investigations, Civil Supervision,
2121 Criminal Supervision, and GPS monitoring, in an effort to balance
2222 the needs of its clients with the safety of the public; and
2323 WHEREAS, Mrs. Burns holds a bachelor's degree in criminal
2424 justice from The University of Texas at Tyler, and she has furthered
2525 her professional development by earning numerous certifications,
2626 including a Community Supervision Officer certification, an SCS
2727 certification, and a Texas Risk Assessment System certification; in
2828 all her endeavors, she enjoys the love and support of her husband,
2929 Magee, and her three children, Nathan, Ashley, and Blake; and
3030 WHEREAS, Karen Burns has greatly benefited the residents of
3131 Van Zandt County through her professionalism and commitment to
3232 excellence, and she may indeed reflect with pride on her many
3333 achievements as she celebrates this impressive milestone in her
3434 career; now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3636 Legislature hereby commend Karen Burns for her three decades of
3737 service to Van Zandt County and extend to her sincere best wishes
3838 for continued success; and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4040 prepared for Mrs. Burns as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4141 House of Representatives.
