6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Karen Burns has served Van Zandt County for 30 |
---|
7 | 7 | | years, and her knowledge and dedication have earned her the respect |
---|
8 | 8 | | of many people along the way; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Burns first joined the county in March 1992 as |
---|
10 | 10 | | a part-time employee with the Van Zandt County Community |
---|
11 | 11 | | Supervision and Corrections Department, and she became a full-time |
---|
12 | 12 | | employee the following year; she eventually began serving as a |
---|
13 | 13 | | probation officer, and in July 2011, she was promoted to deputy |
---|
14 | 14 | | director of the Van Zandt County CSCD; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Since her appointment as director in March 2017, |
---|
16 | 16 | | Mrs. Burns has worked tirelessly with other agencies, departments, |
---|
17 | 17 | | and community organizations to further the CSCD's mission of |
---|
18 | 18 | | reducing the impact of crime in the community; under her able |
---|
19 | 19 | | leadership, the department offers a range of probation services, |
---|
20 | 20 | | including Pre and Post Sentence Investigations, Civil Supervision, |
---|
21 | 21 | | Criminal Supervision, and GPS monitoring, in an effort to balance |
---|
22 | 22 | | the needs of its clients with the safety of the public; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Burns holds a bachelor's degree in criminal |
---|
24 | 24 | | justice from The University of Texas at Tyler, and she has furthered |
---|
25 | 25 | | her professional development by earning numerous certifications, |
---|
26 | 26 | | including a Community Supervision Officer certification, an SCS |
---|
27 | 27 | | certification, and a Texas Risk Assessment System certification; in |
---|
28 | 28 | | all her endeavors, she enjoys the love and support of her husband, |
---|
29 | 29 | | Magee, and her three children, Nathan, Ashley, and Blake; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Karen Burns has greatly benefited the residents of |
---|
31 | 31 | | Van Zandt County through her professionalism and commitment to |
---|
32 | 32 | | excellence, and she may indeed reflect with pride on her many |
---|
33 | 33 | | achievements as she celebrates this impressive milestone in her |
---|
34 | 34 | | career; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby commend Karen Burns for her three decades of |
---|
37 | 37 | | service to Van Zandt County and extend to her sincere best wishes |
---|
38 | 38 | | for continued success; and, be it further |

39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
