| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The 90th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | cause for celebration, and Melba Jean Ethridge is marking that |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | special milestone on November 1, 2023; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Estelle and Tennie Ham, the former |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Melba Jean Ham was born in 1933 in a small frame house in Lynn |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | County; she learned from her parents the value of hard work, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | honesty, and integrity, and she went on to enjoy a successful |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 47-year career as a beautician; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, She married Edgar Eugene Ethridge, a World War II |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | veteran, on June 1, 1949, and the couple shared more than six |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | decades together, until Mr. Ethridge's passing in 2011; they raised |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | their three sons, Doyle, Eddie, and Steven, in Slaton, and with the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | passing years, Mrs. Ethridge has delighted in becoming "Nannie" to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Melba Jean Ethridge has witnessed a panorama of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | change over the course of nine decades, and she has met life's |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | challenges and opportunities with dignity and grace, earning the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | deep admiration of all who are privileged to know her; now, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Melba Jean Ethridge on the joyous |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | occasion of her 90th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | for the future; and, be it further |
