No. 1119 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Proud area residents are gathering in downtown Greenville for the inaugural Hunt County Birthday Bash on April 15, 2023; and WHEREAS, The event is being held in commemoration of the 177th anniversary of Hunt County, which was established by the first Texas Legislature on April 11, 1846, and named after Memuchan Hunt, the first Texas minister to the United States; Greenville, which remains the county's largest town, was designated as the county seat at that time, and other communities, including Commerce, Caddo Mills, Wolfe City, and Quinlan, began to spring up during the latter half of the century; and WHEREAS, Today, Hunt County is home to more than 100,000 people, who treasure the area's unique character and sense of community and also take advantage of its proximity to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex; for residents and visitors alike, Lake Tawakoni provides fine opportunities for camping, hiking, fishing, and paddling, while cultural amenities in the county include the Audie Murphy American Cotton Museum in Greenville, the North East Texas Children's Museum in Commerce, and the planetarium at Texas A&M University-Commerce; the county also hosts a number of events that are enjoyed by residents of all ages, among them the Hunt County Fair and Livestock Show and the Hunt County Festival of the Arts; and WHEREAS, With the theme "Happiness is Hunt County," the Hunt County Birthday Bash offers attendees an opportunity to reflect on the best aspects of their community and on its unique contribution to the story of the Lone Star State, and it is a pleasure to join in celebrating this special occasion; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the inaugural Hunt County Birthday Bash and extend to all those in attendance sincere best wishes for an enjoyable and memorable event.
