5	5	WHEREAS, The members of The University of Texas at Austin
6	6	women's rowing team secured a milestone achievement in the
7	7	program's history by winning the 2021 and 2022 NCAA Division I
8	8	national championships; and
9	9	WHEREAS, With a second-place finish in 2019 and third place
10	10	in 2018, the Longhorns had established themselves as strong title
11	11	contenders heading into the 2021 season; at the national
12	12	championship in Sarasota, Florida, Texas earned bronze in the
13	13	Varsity Four and Second Eight competitions, placing the team in
14	14	third with 60 points entering the First Eight finale; lightning in
15	15	the area forced a nearly two-hour delay in the race, but the
16	16	Longhorns were ready when the dramatic showdown finally got
17	17	underway; the team pulled away in the final 250 meters to cross the
18	18	finish line with a time of 6 minutes, 17.387 seconds, securing the
19	19	first national title in program history; and
20	20	WHEREAS, In 2022, Texas was undefeated and highly ranked
21	21	throughout the season, and the squad followed a familiar script
22	22	when it returned to Sarasota for the national championship
23	23	competition; the Second Eight and Varsity Four squads picked up
24	24	points in the early going with respective fourth- and third-place
25	25	finishes; in the First Eight race, Texas jumped out in front and
26	26	never looked back, clinching its second title with a time of 6
27	27	minutes, 10.733 seconds, nearly five seconds faster than the team's
28	28	nearest competitor; and
29	29	WHEREAS, Excelling with a true team effort, UT benefited from
30	30	the valuable contributions made by each member of the 2021 and 2022
31	31	rosters: Rachel Rane, Kaitlin Knifton, Francesca Raggi, Alexandra
32	32	Watson, Aspa Christodoulidis, Daisy Mazzio-Manson, Anna Jensen,
33	33	Susanna Temming, Lisa Gutfleisch, Elizabeth Romero, Katelyn
34	34	Bouthillette, Amber Harwood, Alexa McAuliffe, Izabela Krakic,
35	35	Parker Illingworth, Samantha Schalk, Hannah Medcalf, Maria
36	36	Valencia, Olivia Fogarty, Lanie Nitsch, Cassandre
37	37	Korvink-Kucinski, Marlowe Eldridge, Claudia Destefani, Etta

41	41	WHEREAS, These determined student-athletes were ably guided
42	42	by head coach Dave O'Neill, associate head coach Mary Lennington,
43	43	assistant coaches Nick Baker and Mara Allen, graduate assistant
44	44	Sara Neaves, and volunteer coaches Hanna Luft and John Graves; the
45	45	team also received support from director of operations Rachel
46	46	Sander, team trainer Laef Morris, and boatman/rigger Spencer Kales;
47	47	and
48	48	WHEREAS, By accomplishing the rare feat of winning
49	49	back-to-back national championships, the Longhorn rowing team has
50	50	distinguished itself as an emerging powerhouse in the sport, and
51	51	the members of the 2021 and 2022 squads may take justifiable pride
52	52	in their outstanding accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
53	53	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
54	54	Legislature hereby congratulate The University of Texas at Austin
55	55	women's rowing team on winning the 2021 and 2022 NCAA Division I
56	56	national championships and extend to the players, coaches, and
57	57	staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
58	58	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
59	59	prepared for the Longhorns as an expression of high regard by the
60	60	Texas House of Representatives.
