5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Cece Cox and Shelly Skeen of Dallas were joined in |

6 | 6 | | matrimony on September 4, 2021, and they have found in each other a |

7 | 7 | | loving life partner; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Both professionals in the field of law, Ms. Cox and |

9 | 9 | | Ms. Skeen first met through their involvement in local and state |
---|
10 | 10 | | legal organizations, and they quickly bonded over their shared |
---|
11 | 11 | | commitment to serving others; the couple exchanged wedding vows in |
---|
12 | 12 | | a ceremony at White Rock Lake in Dallas, and their marriage is a |
---|
13 | 13 | | source of great joy to their families and to their many friends; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Cox has distinguished herself as a dedicated |
---|
15 | 15 | | advocate for the LGBTQ+ and HIV communities, and she has helped |
---|
16 | 16 | | promote local policies to prevent discrimination, harassment, and |
---|
17 | 17 | | bullying; she currently serves as the chief executive officer of |
---|
18 | 18 | | Resource Center, which operates one of the largest LGBTQ+ community |
---|
19 | 19 | | centers in the United States and provides health services and |
---|
20 | 20 | | programs to individuals affected by HIV/AIDS; she has also held |
---|
21 | 21 | | leadership positions with a number of civic and professional |
---|
22 | 22 | | organizations, including the Simmons School of Education and Human |
---|
23 | 23 | | Development at Southern Methodist University, CenterLink, and the |
---|
24 | 24 | | Texas Women's Foundation; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Skeen practiced law as a litigator, mediator, |
---|
26 | 26 | | and arbitrator for two decades, and in 2019, she joined Lambda |
---|
27 | 27 | | Legal, an organization that strives to advance the civil rights of |
---|
28 | 28 | | LGBTQ+ people as well as individuals who are living with HIV; she is |
---|
29 | 29 | | a senior attorney at the South Central Regional Office in Dallas; |
---|
30 | 30 | | over the course of her career, she has worked on numerous |
---|
31 | 31 | | groundbreaking cases and advocacy efforts that fight against |
---|
32 | 32 | | anti-LGBTQ+ legislation; and |
---|
33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Cece Cox and Shelly Skeen have brightened each |
---|
34 | 34 | | other's lives with laughter, kindness, and devotion, and the |
---|
35 | 35 | | strength of their love ensures that many more joyful days await |
