| 6 | 6 | | by earning top honors at the Texas Science and Engineering Fair at |

| 7 | 7 | | Texas A&M University on March 24 and 25, 2023; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Science and Engineering Fair provides a |

| 9 | 9 | | setting for students to showcase their research projects in the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics; with |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | more than 1,200 entries, the contest includes 21 categories in a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | variety of scientific disciplines; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Sixth-grade students at Austin Middle School in the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Galveston Independent School District, Sable Clift and her project |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | partner June Simmons invented an environmentally-friendly feminine |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | hygiene product made of banana plant material, and the duo won both |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the district and regional competitions with their design; at the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | state level, Ms. Clift competed against sixth-, seventh-, and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | eighth-grade students from across Texas, and she earned first place |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | in the Junior Division; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, In addition to her victory at the Texas Science and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Engineering Fair, Ms. Clift is a national nominee for the 2023 |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, By taking part in the Texas Science and Engineering |

| 25 | 25 | | Fair, Sable Clift has ably represented her school and community, |

| 26 | 26 | | and the creativity and dedication she has demonstrated are sure to |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | serve her well in the years ahead; now, therefore, be it |

| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Sable Clift on winning first place |
