5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Members of Leadership Mission are visiting the State |
---|
6 | 6 | | Capitol on February 27, 2023; and |
---|
7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, This exceptional program provides opportunities for |
---|
8 | 8 | | participants to increase their knowledge of vital public issues and |
---|
9 | 9 | | to visit with the leaders who are making decisions that affect their |
---|
10 | 10 | | community; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Meeting regularly over the course of a nine-month |
---|
12 | 12 | | period, participants of Leadership Mission further develop their |
---|
13 | 13 | | skills and enhance their knowledge of important public issues as |
---|
14 | 14 | | they study topics ranging from the history of Mission to city and |
---|
15 | 15 | | county government, the police and fire departments, health care, |
---|
16 | 16 | | education, the media, federal agencies, and economic development; |
---|
17 | 17 | | in addition, participants take a maquila tour; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Classes inspire a spirit of activism and provide |
---|
19 | 19 | | opportunities for leadership training, networking, community |
---|
20 | 20 | | service, and instruction from influential figures from both the |
---|
21 | 21 | | public and the private sectors; each annual Leadership group also |
---|
22 | 22 | | completes a project of benefit to the community; these projects |
---|
23 | 23 | | have included donations to the Mission Historical Museum, the Speer |
---|
24 | 24 | | Memorial Library, the Boys & Girls Club of Mission, and The |
---|
25 | 25 | | University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley, as well as contributions to |
---|
26 | 26 | | the Christmas Bikes initiative; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Leadership Mission awards scholarships each session |
---|
28 | 28 | | to members who are in college and who successfully complete the LM |
---|
29 | 29 | | program; to raise funds for these scholarships, class projects, and |
---|
30 | 30 | | the annual legislative trip, members participate in fundraisers |
---|
31 | 31 | | such as the popular Leadership Mission Golf Tournament and Turkey |
---|
32 | 32 | | Bowl Tournament; over the years, Leadership Mission has also given |
---|
33 | 33 | | back to the community by volunteering for the Back to School |
---|
34 | 34 | | shopping event, National Night Out, the Mission Pink Walk/Run for |
---|
35 | 35 | | Breast Cancer Awareness & Treatment, the Mayor's Christmas Tree |
---|
36 | 36 | | Lighting Ceremony, the Mission Community Health and Wellness Fair, |
---|
37 | 37 | | and the City of Mission Trash Bash; and |
---|
38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Through fostering a more informed and involved |
---|
39 | 39 | | citizenry and developing new leaders, Leadership Mission is helping |
---|
40 | 40 | | create a brighter and more promising future for the Lone Star State; |
---|
41 | 41 | | now, therefore, be it |

42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
43 | 43 | | Legislature hereby recognize February 27, 2023, as Leadership |

44 | 44 | | Mission Day at the State Capitol and extend to all program |

45 | 45 | | participants sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
